The Hokie Flying Club currently has two airplanes available to the membership: a Cessna Skyhawk 172M and a Cessna Cardinal 177RG. Please check the Club Flight Operations for rules governing airplane scheduling. Below is information about each of the airplanes. Consistent with the Bylaws, a proficiency checkout with a Club-approved CFI is required prior to any member flying as pilot-in-command (PIC) in any Club aircraft.
1976 Cessna Skyhawk 172M
The Cessna Skyhawk 172M is the Club’s base airplane. It is available for all members, and is also the Club’s trainer airplane for student pilots. It has basic navigation equipment, but is not certified for IFR flight or training. The Skyhawk is great for short, local flights but can also be checked out by members for multi-day trips.
1976 Cessna Cardinal 177RG
The Cessna Cardinal 177RG is the Club’s complex airplane. It has 4 seats, retractable gear, constant speed propeller, autopilot, and a full instrument panel including a Garmin GNX 375. The Cardinal is available to members for simple flights, but is generally preferred for long-distance and/or multi-day trips. It is also the preferred airplane for those flying IFR or looking to achieve their IFR rating.
